"Mao Kung" Ting Vessel,
Inscription
King Hsuan
Late Western Chou Dynasty
(ca. 9th-8th century B.C.)
The "Mao Kung" ting
vessel bears a 32-column
inscription totalling 497
characters. The style of
the characters, in seal
script calligraphy, matches
that generally found on
bronze bells and ting
vessels. Broadly speaking,
all inscriptions on Shang
and Chou bronzes are
written in seal script
calligraphy.
